Wuelfrath. Four athletes qualified by the Gymnastics Federation took part in the West German individual championships in judo. The twin brothers Roman and Konstantin Distel brought two gold medals to Wülfrath.
The North Rhine-Westphalian Judo Association started the new competition season with 130 athletes from the five districts. After two victories in the semi-finals, Roman Distel was up against the third-placed team from the Düsseldorf district. In an exciting fight, Roman won after a fight time of 2:13 minutes. The final lasted only 16 seconds against a Bochum judoka.
His brother Konstantin had to start directly against a seeded athlete from TSV Herta Wahlheim. There the Wülfrather fighter was able to prevail with a throw. With victories in the quarter and semi-finals, the second Wülfrather Judo was in the final. There Konstantin was able to achieve the gold medals after 25 seconds with a floor technique worth seeing.
As the youngest TBW fighter, Leroy Westhoff started up to 37 kg. At his first national championship, the TBW athlete achieved seventh place after three fights.
Unfortunately, Benaja Feuersänger was unable to start due to illness. The state trainer gave the Distel brothers a lot of praise because they prevailed in the most heavily occupied weight classes with very good technique and strength. Already next weekend the two will continue in Backnang at the national sighting tournament in order to recommend themselves to the national coach at this level.
