there will be no tournament in Moscow

The ATP and the WTA launched a joint communication on Tuesday due to the Russian invasion in Ukraine: there will be no tournament in Moscow (scheduled for October), the players will be able to continue participating in both circuits and the ATP joins what was announced by the WTA that Russian and Belarusian players will no longer have the flags of their nations.

In addition, the ITF had decided to suspend Russia and Belarus from their nations competitions (Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup) in addition to suspending all tournaments that were scheduled to take place in those countries.

The statement announcing the sanctions:

“A deep sense of anguish, shock and sadness was felt in the tennis community following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last week. Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine and we commend the tennis players who spoke out and took action against this unacceptable aggression. We echo your calls to end the violence and return to peace.

The safety of the tennis community is our immediate priority. The focus of the WTA and ATP in recent days has been to contact current and former players, and other members of the tennis community from Ukraine and neighboring countries to check on their safety and offer assistance.”
