Thibaut Courtois has been elected player of the month for February in the Spanish football championship, La Liga announced on Friday. Courtois, 29, succeeds Atlético Madrid player Angel Correa who won such a distinction for the month of January. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Barcelona), Nabil Fekir (Bétis Sevilla), Daniel Vivian (Bilbao), Pau Torres (Villarreal), Pere Milla (Elche) and Vedat Muriqi (Majorca) were the other nominees. The Red Devils goalkeeper won this distinction for the second time in his career after that received for the month of January 2020.
During the month of February, Real Madrid chained three victories and a share with four clean sheets for Courtois. “His reflexes, his ability to play in the back and his dedication have made him a key player for the Madrid team,” read the La Liga statement. “He’s made four clean sheets, the fifth most saves this season and he’s one of the reasons why Real Madrid are the second best defense in the league.”
Real Madrid top the La Liga standings with 63 points, eight ahead of closest rivals Sevilla.
