Life is smiling on Thibaut Courtois: two days after qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, he has been named Spain’s Player of the Month.
Karim Benzema got all the spotlight on him last Wednesday after his hat-trick that cost PSG the head in the Champions League. But Thibaut Courtois has also been acting at a particularly high level in recent weeks, including in the first leg in Paris, where he saved a penalty from Messi.
In the league matches in February, Courtois did not concede a single goal: he kept a clean sheet against Granada, Alaves, Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal. This allowed Real to put first pursuer Sevilla on 8 points.
For Courtois, it is only the second time in his career that he has been named Player of the Month in Spain. In January 2020, he became the very first Belgian to receive that honour.
