Yuriy Vernydub once brought the Sheriff of Tiraspol to beat Real Madrid. The Ukrainian coach is now fighting against Russia.
Russia invaded Ukraine since Thursday (24/2/2022). Missiles and weapons of the Land of the Red Bear hit various regions in Ukraine.
The conditions of war brought the Ukrainian people together. Many of its citizens become volunteer soldiers who are ready to block Russian military aggression.
One of them was Yuriy Vernydub who joined the war. The coach of the Tiraspol Sheriff’s club returned to his country to join the war.
Vernydub day-to-day is the football coach of the Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol. But the conditions experienced by Ukraine made him choose to go home.
A photo on Twitter shows Yuriy Vernydub already wearing a military costume. He was seen posing with two other people who were also wearing army clothes.
Vernydub himself has made clear his determination to defend the country. Last week, he said he was ready to help.
“I have a wife, two children, two grandchildren, a brother and a sister. I hope they are healthy and this war does not touch them,” he said last week, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“When I arrived in Moldova, I asked my family to return. If they need my help, I will always be there.”
“I would like to leave a few words of support for the people in Ukraine, who are suffering the attacks from Russia. I am proud of the people who defended the country,” he said.
Vernydub himself brought Sheriff Tiraspol to look good in Europe this season. He helped the Moldovan team taste the Champions League for the first time.
In that event, Sheriff joined Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Shahktar Donetsk. As a result, the Sherriff had beaten Madrid 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Sheriff himself ended his career by placing third in Group D with 7 points. Sebastian Thill et al almost qualified for the last 16 thanks to Yuriy Vernydub’s polish.
