great weekend for Xàtiva Badminton Club, which won three new medals in two competitions, the Spanish Para Badminton International II 2022 in Vitoria; and in the U-15 and U-19 Masters in Alfajarín (Aragón). the sportsman Thomas Wandschneiderwho plays for the Xàtiva club, participated in the Vitoria competition with the German Parabadminton Team and won two medals: gold in the men’s doubles and silver in the individual.
In the men’s doubles WH1-WH2, Thomas played with his new partner Rick Cornell Hellman, with whom he finished second in the group stage and entered the final draw. The Germans stood in the final, after beating the Indian couple in the semifinals, and in the decisive match for gold they beat the Malaysian couple formed by Noor Azwan Noorlan and Muhammad Ikhwan Ramli, winning by a double 21-14 and proclaiming themselves champions .
In the WH1 singles, Thomas started as the number one seed and easily reached the quarter-finals. In the semifinals he beat the Indian Prem Kumar Ale 21-10 and 21-14 and stood in the final, where he faced Muhammad Ikhwan Ramlli again, in a very tough match in which the CB Xàtiva athlete lost 22-20 , 22-24 and 21-17, hanging the silver.
For its part, María Sanz won the bronze medal in the women’s doubles of the Master Sub-15 and Sub-19 held last weekend in the Aragonese town of Alfajarín. María played the under-19 doubles with Lucía Chorques (CB Drop València) and, after passing the group stage, in the semifinals they lost to the Asturian couple formed by Laura Álvarez and Amaia Torralba, seeded number one, by 21- 12 and 21-19, achieving the bronze. María also competed in the mixed doubles, together with Vicent Molina, where they could not access the final phase. Vicent also played the men’s doubles, with David Polop; and CB Xàtiva was also represented in this test with Hugo Medina and Jaume Tur. In addition, Hugo, Jaume and David competed in the individual.
In the sub-15 category, Ximo Torres and Sarai Ramón participated from Badminton Xàtiva, who were unable to pass the group stage in the individual event, nor in the mixed doubles, in which the two from Setabenses played together and started as seeded number one in their group, but in the match for the direct pass to the final they fell to Félix Sanz and Sara Llopis from Alicante.
The Xàtiva Badminton Club also attended the third day of the provincial phase of the Jocs Escolars in juvenile and junior categories. Ten athletes from the club and the Municipal Sports School competed. Feliu Terol and Alexis Piñero continue to lead in the men’s singles; and Martina Molina in female. In doubles, Martina and Feliu also remain in the top positions, ensuring their qualification for the Provincial Championship. The Xàtiva club achieved 50% victories in individual and 30% in doubles.
Next weekend, CB Xàtiva will play the Iberdrola Spanish Para Badminton International, in Cartagena; the Top Autonomous Master’s Degree under-13 and under-17, in El Campello; and the Autonomous Championship sub-11, sub-15 and Absolute, in Valencia.
