For its twentieth anniversary, the Raid Amazonsa 100% female raid created in 2001 by Alexandre Debanneinnovates by exceptionally organizing two editions, from March 13 to 23 and from March 27 to April 6, 2022.
Three residents of Lot will fly to the Sri Lanka : Caroline Ravens of Leyme ; Pascale Courbières and Céline Mazelle de Camburat.
sports and humanitarianism
For 7 days, nearly 400 participants will meet in Sri Lanka to a series of sporting challenges to be carried out in teams of two or three: canoeing, mountain biking, trail running, archery… The organization of the raid also provides ample room for meeting local populations, through the support of several associations. The morning is devoted to sporting events, the afternoon to humanitarian actions.
Each team can also choose an association and undertakes to support it, in parallel with the search for sponsors to complete the necessary budget.
The Lot department will be well represented for this 20e edition of the Amazon Raid.
The “CaBri’Folles”
Caroline Corbeaux lives in Leyme. Caregiver, she will participate in the raid with her sister Brigitte, who lives in Corrèze. Their team is called the “CaBri’Folles”. “It’s a challenge that my sister wanted to take on for her 40th birthday, in 2020. She asked me to take part. »
The two sisters have been registered for two years, but the Covid came to disrupt the organization of the Raid Amazones. They have been waiting since then to participate and are only waiting for one thing: to fly to Sri Lanka on Sunday March 13. “We’ve been waiting for two years! We have always been sporty, but at a leisure level. We pushed the training a bit more. It is the repetition of the tests which is likely to be a little tiring. »
Brigitte already knows Sri Lanka. She promised her sister a “very exotic” country, with “superb landscapes”.
Caroline and Brigitte have chosen to support an association that they know from those around them. I’“Solidarity for Lyna” association aims to improve the daily life of a 7-year-old girl suffering from Rett syndrome, a rare disease that impairs the development of the central nervous system and which only affects little girls.
« Lot’AmaZines »
Pascale Courbières and Céline Mazelle have also been waiting for two years to live the adventure of the Raid Amazones. With their “Lot’AmaZines” team, the Lotoises will participate in the second session, from March 27 to April 6.
These two great friends live in Camburat, near Figeac. They chose to support the“Beautiful Haiti” association, which operates in Haiti, created by Dominique Gosse-Issart, who lives in Camburat. “It’s a nod to the village,” says Céline Mazelle. To highlight the association, the “Lot’AmaZines” team will have a stand on the Figeac market on Saturday 12 March morning.
The humanitarian component of Raid Amazones convinced Pascale Courbières, childminder, and Céline Mazelle, lawyer, to embark on the adventure. “Going abroad to do only sport, we would not have gone there. Because of my personal history, I am very aware of solidarity and humanitarianism,” says Céline Mazelle.
However, they have not neglected the sporting side. Practicing sport in leisure mode, such as body karate, they went “all the way” to mountain biking, archery, canoeing… The local clubs welcomed them with open arms to train.
Pascale Courbières and Céline Mazelle will live a new adventure together, they who have already shared trips abroad (Bali, Dominican Republic), “backpack, to know the country”. They are now waiting for only one thing: to fly to Sri Lanka.
