Mexico City. – The Mexican women’s archery team was made up of Alejandra Valencia Trujillo, from Sonora, Ana Paula Vázquez Flores, from Coahuila, Aída Román Arroyo, representative of Puebla, and Valentina Vázquez, the latter as a reserve, after the National Selective Control of the specialty in the National Center for Development and Sports Talents and High Performance (CNAR), of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE).

The goalkeepers got their ticket to the First Qualifier of the discipline, heading to the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, fair that will take place from March 14 to 20, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico; the Aztec team will travel to the event on March 12.

Alejandra Valencia, bronze medalist in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games; Aída Román, silver medalist in London 2012; and Ana Paula Vázquez, gold medalist in the Central American and Caribbean Games Barranquilla 2018, achieved the first three places in the National Selective Archery Control, which took place over two days at the CNAR, a competition that brought together the best seven goalkeepers in the country.

The objective in Bayamón is for the complete men’s and women’s recurve teams to qualify, as well as the men’s and women’s compound, to obtain the 12 possible places for San Salvador 2023; the rivals to beat for us will be Colombia and some athletes from El Salvador, Puerto Rico and Guatemala, but the strong countries are Mexico and Colombia”, he shared with CONADE, Santiago Avitiapresident of the Mexican Archery Federation.

The director informed that the compound bow team will enter the CNAR next Monday, March 7, while the start of the international competition for the entire national team is scheduled for Saturday, March 12.
