Sunday 20 March, we propose the excursion to the Rocca Livernà forts, canceled due to bad weather on 13 March.
In Cisano sul Neva the past has left important testimonies, such as the castle of the Conscente district and the seventeenth-century Oratory of San Giovanni Battista. Sunday 13 March from 9 am the medieval village will be the starting point of an excursion to the forts of Rocca Liverna and which will offer 360 degree panoramic views of Albenga and the Pennavaira Valley.
A nineteenth-century Savoyard military post, Rocca Livernà (546 m) was built on a previous castle to control the surrounding plain and valleys. At the base of the fortress is the battery, which housed the artillery positions and the troop chambers, connected by corridors in the trenches. Along one of them you can see the traces of a fountain. Another tunnel ends instead between the rocks overlooking the valley below.
From the entrance of the lower fort, a narrow path leads to the upper one, also with several rooms and trenches and a suggestive brick staircase that leads to the top of the fortress, overlooking the valley of Cisano sul Neva. From here the view sweeps over the surrounding culminations, where other forts of the defensive line are well hidden among the vegetation of the nearby mountains.
The trek is organized and will be led by Marian Mocanu, environmental hiking guide associated with AIGAE and AGAEL and associated tour guide ALAIT. The difficulty will be “hiking”, the difference in height 530 meters, the distance 11 km, the cost € 12. We recommend clothing including hiking boots and poles, anorak, sunglasses and hat and equipment with a water bottle with hot tea and a packed lunch. The meeting will be at the parking lot adjacent to the Town Hall, in via Alessandro Colombo 53.
