In basketball, the results from the qualifiers have led to some changes in the latest FIBA Men’s World Rankings from all continents. While France, Greece, Iceland and Georgia are rising in Europe; South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal in Africa; Brazil in the Americas, Kazakhstan and Lebanon in Asia climbed to the top.
After the second window of the World Cup 2023 Qualifiers, there was activity in the top five. After their 94-56 home win against Portugal and their 69-56 win in Portugal, France was replaced by Slovenia and moved up from fifth to fourth place. Slovenia defeated Finland 86-76 away, then 83-79 at home.
Another change in the top 10 was that Greece, which won two victories against Turkey, moved up to 9th place, ahead of Italy.
The biggest move in the Men’s World Rankings came from South Sudan, which beat Rwanda (68-56), FIBA AfroBasket 2021 champions Tunisia (72-64) and Cameroon (74-68) in the qualifying window played in Senegal. This performance allowed South Sudan to jump six places to 76th place.
