Turnaround at ADO: ‘Called on Friday, train with us on Saturday and start on Monday’

The sudden departure of ADO Den Haag trainer Ruud Brood did not suit Benjamin Reemst badly. The 21-year-old midfielder was suddenly allowed to make his professional debut against Jong Ajax on Monday evening, while he was not needed in the A-selection under Brood.

Reemst was twice in the match selection of ADO at the beginning of this season, but that was it. “When Ruud Brood sent me back to Jong ADO, I couldn’t do anything but keep working hard to take the step to the first. Fortunately, I’m here now,” he told Omroep West after his baptism of fire at De Toekomst.

ADO lost 6-3, but Reemst had reason to laugh. After assistant Giovanni Franken took over from Brood, things suddenly went fast. “I was called on Friday evening that I could train on Saturday. I was suddenly with the basic team, after which the trainer came to me and said I could start on Monday.”

In the meantime, Reemst is studying commercial economics in Rotterdam: that could also come in handy at ADO, he adds with a laugh. “It is mainly about that later after my career I may also be able to become financial director somewhere in the football world or something like that. Does ADO need that? Haha, maybe even conclude a contract: a duo function, player-director.”
