Twelve hopefuls from the NBA Academy Africa of Saly (Mbour, West) will join one of the 12 teams of the Basket African League (BAL) during the second 2022 season of this league, which starts on Saturday at the Dakar Arena, in Diamniadio, APS learned from the Basketball Africa League (BAL) on Thursday.
In a statement, BAL says it has created the inaugural “BAL Elevate” program, which will feature 12 prospects from six African countries currently attending NBA Academy Africa.
The NBA Academy Africa, an elite basketball training center based in Saly-Portudal, trains the best prospects from all over Africa.
The statement said the ”BAL Elevate” program will offer the next generation of African hopefuls the opportunity to participate in the new professional league, show their talent on the world stage and help their respective teams compete in the BAL championship in 2022.
Quoting BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall, the text states that the ”BAL Elevate” program will be ”extremely” useful for the 12 BAL teams and for the young men of the NBA Academy Africa who are ready to evolve at the professional level alongside the best players on the continent.
He explains that if BAL Elevate players are from the same country as a BAL participating team, they “will automatically be named to that same team”.
“And if there is more than one BAL Elevate player from the same country, the team will have to select one of these players while the remaining player(s) will have to join the player pool to have the possibility of being selected. by a different team,” the statement added.
However, he clarifies that “players in the BAL Elevate program will not share in the monetary prize awarded to BAL’s top teams at the end of the season in order to maintain their amateur status”.
The 12 BAL teams were divided between the Sahara Conference and the Nile Conference. Each of the conferences will play a 15-game group stage, in which each team will play the other five teams in their conference once.
The group stage of the Sahara Conference will take place at the Dakar Arena, starting this Saturday. It will continue until March 15.
The Nile Conference group stage will take place at the Hassan Mostafa Indoor Sports Complex, Cairo, from April 9-19.
The top four teams from each conference will advance to the BAL playoffs, which will include a knockout tournament and finals at Kigali Arena, May 21-28.
