Although there are many memorable scenes in Twilight, the iconic baseball sequence has always struck a chord with fans. The scene, which features the Cullen family partaking in America’s favorite pastime, occurs just before the film’s climax. From the vegetarian vampires showing off their super speed and strength, to the music and cinematography in general, the scene is truly unique.
But while most Twilight fans have always found the baseball scene to be the pinnacle of cool, shooting was anything but. Although the cast promised to give their best to the scene, some even got hurt, they didn’t know what the final product would look like. That, coupled with the fact that it was actually the first scene to be filmed, made filming particularly unnerving for the actors.
Ashley Greene Reveals ‘Twilight’ Baseball Scene Was Difficult for Cast to Film
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ashley Greene, who played Alice Cullen, opened up about what it was really like to film the baseball scene. “It was a bit chaotic and it was raining,” she said. Twilight revealed alum. “We were, as a cast, kind of like, ‘What is this going to be? Is this going to be good? There was a bit of uncertainty around him. I lied, I don’t know how to play baseball and I said, ‘Will this look good?’ Wouldn’t you know that it turns out to be this kind of iconic moment for Alice?

Part of what made things so chaotic for the cast was that they couldn’t see Catherine Hardwicke’s vision clearly. Hardwicke, of course, directed Twilight and felt that nailing the baseball scene was very important. And while her approach muddied things for the cast at times, Greene was ultimately pleased with the end result.
It was hard for the actors to see Catherine Hardwicke’s unique vision.
“Catherine is brilliant, but she’s an artist, so it’s a bit chaotic and less structured on set, which is why we didn’t get to see this finished version,” he said. Twilight shared star. “That particular scene for me is one that I’m like, good heavens, it turned out fantastic and I never would have imagined it in the days we were shooting it. Part of that is the editing, part of that is the music, part of that was the genius that Catherine is.”

For his part, Hardwicke had his work cut out for him. One of his biggest challenges in filming the baseball sequence was the weather. In an interview with Insider, the Twilight The director explained why rain was such a difficult element to deal with.

“We were shooting in the winter because that’s when there are the most clouds,” Hardwicke shared about filming the first. Twilight scene. “We couldn’t have a bright sun because then the vampires would have to shine. We didn’t want them to shine all the time, we couldn’t afford it. CGI sparks cost a lot of money. The weather did not cooperate. And you can’t have pouring rain [because of] all makeup drips; hair. They just don’t look like the cool vampires in the pouring rain.”
Although there may be many challenges for the Twilight the cast, and Hardwicke, more than pulled off the scene. The baseball scene remains one of the most memorable in the massive franchise.
