For the first time this 1B season, leader Westerlo was able to beat Deinze. It left East Flanders with 1-2 and is therefore 11 points ahead of first pursuer RWDM.
In the three previous confrontations with Deinze, Westerlo could barely take one point this season.
The match couldn’t have started better for the visitors. After three minutes of play, the ball was already in goal after a header goal from Soumah’s corner.
Deinze immediately went looking for the equalizer, but it only came after the break. Janssens scored a wonderful free kick.
Westerlo did not want to be surprised a fourth time. Thanks to De Cuyper – with another header goal – they took the lead again with fifteen minutes left on the clock.
It became tense in the added time when the same De Cuyper was immediately shown red for a tackle from behind on Staelens, but Westerlo did not let the victory slip out of his hands.
