The two young Ukrainians, aged 21 and 25, are the first footballers to die since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Two young footballers have lost their lives in Ukraine. It was the international union of professional players (FIFPro) which announced the news on its social networks. They are Vitalii Sapylo, a 21-year-old hopeful from Carpathians Lviv (2nd division) and Dmytro Martynenko, 25 years old. “Our thoughts are with their families, friends and teammates“wrote FIFPro.
These two deaths are the first to be deplored in the world of football since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24. Sapylo had joined the army of his country before dying in combat while Martynenko perished, with his mother, following a bombardment near Kiev.
