The players from Gipuzkoa confirmed their status as favorites against Valdemoro (6-0) and are two games away from their first league title
The women’s Txuri Urdin did not give rise to any surprise yesterday at the San Sebastian Ice Palace and quickly resolved -in the second game- the semifinal tie against Valdemoro (6-0) to get into the grand final by the league title. Those of Koldo Sáenz, coach of Txuri, confirmed their status as favorites to score the second point in front of their fans and they will face the almighty Majadahonda again in search of what would be their first title in this championship.
The Gipuzkoans did not speculate at any time during the match and five minutes into the first period they opened the gap with a goal from the best of the match, the Canadian Cecilia López, who took advantage of the rebound to pierce Lucía Inserser’s visiting goal. The second goal came as soon as the next period started, with the same protagonists in the photo. María Serna drove fast, found López and this, after unwrapping from a rival, culminated perfectly. The Madrilenians did not throw in the towel and increased the intensity, but they stayed with one less for two minutes after Lidia Romero’s warning and Txuri took advantage of it with a great goal from Irene Senac.
The 3-0 at the end of the second period was an important difference but not excessive, the locals must have thought. Well, in the third and final they finished it off with three more goals. Vanesa Abrisqueta, Haizea Fernández and Cecilia López -her third goal of the afternoon- joined the party to win in style and celebrate with their fans.
“A great match,” says Sáenz
Joy reigned after the final whistle and they celebrated the victory afterwards as a family. Koldo Sáenz stated that they had played “a great match to be a semifinal, although it has cost since they came with desire but we have been a roller”. The key was “not to change the dynamics of work and intensity, in addition to the fact that we have not let them breathe” and assured that the support of the fans “the players have appreciated and have been calm and focused on their own”. From next Saturday the final starts against Majadahonda. “It’s going to be difficult, but we have to value what this team has done and we’re in a great situation to face what’s coming.” It will be, as in the semifinals, the best of three games and the first will be played at the San Sebastián Ice Palace, while the second will be played in Majadahonda on March 19 and if necessary a third, on the same stage a day later. .
