UEFA: anger outburst of PSG leadership against Makkelie gets a tail

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and Leonardo’s outburst of anger against referee Danny Makkelie gets a tail. L’Équipe has been informed by UEFA that an investigation is underway into the Paris Saint-Germain chairman and technical director.

PSG was well on their way to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday evening, but collapsed like a house of cards after Real Madrid’s controversial equalizer. Afterwards, Makkelie was blamed. The referee refused to whistle for Karim Benzema’s push against goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, much to the dismay of Al-Khelaïfi and Leonardo. The policy makers stormed down after the final whistle and attacked Makkelie.

UEFA is outraged at PSG’s misconduct and has confirmed to L’Equipe it will open criminal proceedings against Al-Khelaïfi, Leonardo and the French club in general. Makkelie included the incident in his match report and images were reported to have been handed over to UEFA. PSG must take into account a suspension, fine or other punishment. The PSG bobos would have refused to leave Makkelie’s dressing room. Al-Khelaïfi also deliberately knocked the flag out of the hands of one of the aides.
