Tymoshchuk has not condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or resigned as assistant coach of the Zenith team in the Russian championship, where he has worked since 2017.
Tymoshchuk, 42, is the former captain of the Ukrainian national team.
The coach has been banned from participating in Ukrainian football for life, the national federation said on Friday. Timoshchuk will also be deprived of his Ukrainian coach’s license and will be removed from the national football list. The federation has also asked the Ukrainian government to withdraw the Ukrainian state awards given to Tymoshchuk.
Former national team midfielder Timoshchuk won the UEFA Champions League in 2013 as part of Bayern Munich. With the Bavarian club, he also became a two-time German champion and won the German Cup twice.
As part of Donetsk’s Shakhtar, Tymoshchuk became a three-time champion of Ukraine and won the national cup the same number of times. As a member of “Zenit”, the footballer won two titles of the Russian champion, as well as won the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
Timoshchuk ended his career in 2016, when he represented the Almaty Kairat team in Kazakhstan.
In the Ukrainian national team, Timoshchuk scored four goals in 144 games.
