Union Berlin: Baumgartl attacks the referee – “I don’t know if we play youth football…” – Bundesliga

Stuttgart draws 1-1 at Union in the final minute.

After the final whistle, Berlin defender Timo Baumgartl gave up.

On the Sky microphone, Baumgartl said: “I have to be a little careful what I say … What some people are doing here on the pitch is crazy. I don’t know if we play youth football or something else… that’s an absolute cheek.”

Demand from reporter Jens Westen: “Who do you mean exactly?”

Baumgartl: “Anyone can make up what I mean here.”

Question: “Teammates?”

Answer: “No, no players.”

Question: “Referee?”

Answer: “You said that … There was simply no line to be seen, every 50:50 duel was called for Stuttgart. I’m sorry, we play men’s football here, so you just have to rate duels differently.” Referee Robert Hartmann called for 34 fouls in the game – 24 of them against Union. The Berliners fouled more often than any other team this season.

Without the late equalizer, however, the statistics would have remained a side note.

90 minutes: Sosa crosses, Kalajdzic puts his long leg in and tips the ball over the line to make it 1-1. His 21st goal for VfB in the 50th Bundesliga game. Awoniyi put Union in the lead with a hand penalty (41st).

Kaladzic: “Sosa’s cross was great. I am just happy. The draw is okay, we were impressed in the first half. It was dramatic, we’re happy to take that point with us.”

VfB coach Pellegrino Matarazzo: “It gives us momentum for the coming weeks.” The Austrian is becoming increasingly important for VfB: Kalajdzic was directly involved in one goal in each of his last four Bundesliga games (three goals, one assist).

Curious: Union was also on the attacker in 2019, but he preferred to switch from Admira Mödling to Stuttgart.

For the Berliners, the 1-1 draw is a setback in the fight for Europe. Captain Christopher Trimmel: “The result is fair. Sasa had a second very good opportunity. Stuttgart just did better in the second half. We actually intended to go for the second goal, but when the opponent does it, it’s difficult for us too.”
