UTESA confirms supremacy of the University Games judo tournament – ​​Cartel Deportivo

SANTO DOMINGO. The Technological University of Santiago (UTESA) extended to six its chain of consecutive titles in the judo tournament of the National University Games.

The UTESA judokas exhibited their superiority in the tournament, held on Saturday at the National Judo House of the Olympic Center, by winning five of the 12 finals that were played.

The tournament was organized by the Department of University Sports of the Ministry of Sports, in coordination with the Dominican Judo Federation (Fedojudo).

“This result has been the product of the dedication of the athletes, with determined work, and the support of the utesian authorities,” commented Dr. José Ángel De León, UTESA sports director.

The UTESA Judo team won five gold medals, one silver and one bronze. The second place went to the representation of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), with two gold, five silver and three bronze medals, while the Organization and Method University (O&M) occupied the third step with two medals of gold, a couple of silver and three bronze.

Fourth place went to the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU), winning two golds and one bronze. The team from the National Evangelical University (UNEV) came in fifth place, adding one gold, four silver and one bronze medal.

The Central University of the East (UCE), with a gold, achieved the sixth step, while the National Technological Institute (INTEC), was seventh, with a gold medal, while the eighth step fell on the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), with two silver metals and one bronze, and the Instituto Tecnológico Las Américas, with one silver, was ninth.

Brief opening ceremony

The opening ceremony was led by Roque García, director of University Sports of the Ministry of Sports; Mr. Gilberto García, president of Fedojudo; Franklin De la Mota, administrative deputy minister of Miderec; Masahiro Takayi, Japanese ambassador to the country; Colonel National Police, Juan Romero Rosario, as well as Dulce María Piña, Leidi Germán and Luisa Martínez, from Fedojudo, among other personalities.

Student athletes from the INTEC, ITLA, ICE, UNPHU, UCE, APEC, UNEV, OYM, UTESA and UASD universities, among others, took part in the contest.

Japan’s ambassador to the country, Masahiro Takayi, performed the Hajime of honor at the opening. The athletes are Omaria Ramírez and Yermy Olivo.
