Verstappen about renewed Mercedes: ”Ugly, huh?”

The Mercedes team came to Bahrain with a remarkable and radical design. The W13 had hidden sidepods and that caused quite a bit of surprise. Verstappen also thinks the same, but prefers to focus on himself and his own team.

“Ugly, huh?”, the Dutchman jokes in an interview with Formula 1. “They use a different way of working and, moreover, the competition has only been able to see the car for the first time today,” said the world champion about the approach of the German rival.

Verstappen continues: ”We therefore only focus on ourselves, because that is in our own hands. That’s how we’ve always worked and that works best for us.” Whether the Dutchman has discussed the W13 with Red Bull designer Adrian Newey, came a clear answer. “I didn’t ask him any questions.”

If Mercedes is faster, then Verstappen has found an ideal solution to outwit the eight-time constructors champion: ”Then we just brake later to make up for the lost time”, he jokes at the end.
