The Guanajuato Open 2022 Women’s Tennis Tournament has established itself as one of the best in the specialty and has managed to position Irapuato not only in the eyes of the country, but also the world due to the high level of competition it has.
Carlos González López de Lara, president of the Mexican Tennis Federation, said that it is the first time he has attended the tournament and he left amazed not only by the level of competition he was able to see in the games he witnessed, but also because the facilities where the competition takes place are of the first level.
“We raised the bet from 25,000 to 60,000 and the bet is not wrong, because the framework, the city, the people and the effort they have put into making this tournament take place deserves great recognition and as a Federation we feel very proud” said Carlos González López de Lara.
And it is not for less, because according to Carmelita Peña, a member of the organizing committee of the Guanajuato Open, five million pesos were invested in the adaptation of the tennis area of the Santa Margarita Golf Club to have first-class facilities for this prestigious tournament. .
During the opening ceremony, the work that Gilberto Magaña, tournament director, has had to make the Guanajuato Open a prestigious tournament at a national and international level was recognized.
For her part, Lorena Alfaro García, municipal president of Irapuato, said that she is proud to have the Guanajuato Open, which in its 17-year history has managed to establish itself as a benchmark event for women’s tennis at the national and international level and has been great because it has been carried out in a coordinated manner between society and government.
“This is what makes the city great, citizen participation and the more we open up citizen participation, the city will continue with its dynamism, that which is so much needed today more than we have been coming out of a pandemic.”
More than 60 tennis players who are within the ranking of the best 100 tennis players in the International Tennis Federation will participate in the international competition, for which great expectations have been generated and a large number of local visitors are expected, from other regions of the country and the world.
During the formal ceremony, the tennis player Marcela Zacarías was in charge of taking the sports oath of the tournament and later it was her turn to play the subsequent match of the event.
