Violence in amateur football: Pantin players attacked with iron bars after a match in Essonne

The windows of the minibus were shattered and several players were injured. This Sunday, March 13, shortly before 7 p.m., a fight broke out in the parking lot of the Georges-Collet stadium in Palaiseau after the football match which opposed the senior team of the city to that of Pantin (Seine-Saint-Denis). Four people were injured with broken ribs, bruises and open wounds that required stitches.

Contacted this Monday morning, the departmental directorate of public security (DDSP) confirms the violent altercation. “About twenty people attacked the Pantin team when the players returned to their bus, details a police source. Four of them were injured, including one in the head. They were taken to the scene by firefighters before being taken to hospital. »

“A precedent in a match against Massy”

In the aftermath of the events, the attackers had not been arrested. But for the players, from Pantin as from Palaiseau, the origin of the altercation goes back several months. “There was a precedent in a match against Massy, testifies the president of the Pantin club, Mohamed Il Said. After a dispute between two players, the spectators had invaded the field, forcing the referee to interrupt the meeting. Coming out of the locker room, my players had already been taken to task. I had alerted the league. »

In the meantime, a Massy player changes club and now wears the colors of Palaiseau.

“There was no problem during the meeting, assures the president of Pantin. We played the match and we lost (2-3). It was when my players came out of the locker room that they were targeted in an ambush. They came everywhere, with iron bars and baseball bats. It’s the first time I’ve seen so much violence on the sidelines of a football match. The league needs to take this matter very seriously. »

In Palaiseau, the dispute between Pantin and Massy is also on everyone’s lips. “The former Massy player was insulted before entering the field, reports a club educator. I warned the line referee and the central referee. »

After the meeting, the coach plays the card of caution. “I asked my players to wait for the Pantin team to leave before leaving the locker room, he continues. You can’t blame my players because they were inside. But outside, a group is waiting for the opposing team. “Everything happened very quickly, adds the coach. I rushed to separate them. It was mostly young people. »

“Amateur football is sick”

On the phone, the president of the Massy Abder Chachoua club does not hide his disappointment. “What happened, because of pseudo-supporters, is extremely serious, he slices. My players, who have nothing to do with this story, must travel this weekend to Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) and then to Pantin. I don’t want to send them into an ambush. Today, amateur football is sick and we, club presidents, are helpless. What can we do ? We are not going to put a CRS behind every player. It’s very complicated… “

“What happened is deplorable, abounds the president of the Palaiseau club Jean-Pierre Mahy. The problem is that it continues on social networks. Today, I fear for the next matches… I repeated it this morning to my colleagues from Massy and Pantin, we must all row in the same direction to improve the situation. »
