Archery Community Stands United for Peace in Ukraine
The global sporting community has responded with resounding condemnation to the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Amidst the escalating conflict, the French Archery Federation (FFTA) joins this chorus, echoing the sentiments of International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach in calling for a diplomatic resolution and a return to peace. In a swift response to the crisis, World Archery, guided by IOC recommendations, has implemented a series of measures targeting Russia and Belarus. Jean-Michel Cléroy, President of the FFTA and a member of the World archery Executive Board, played a key role in these decisions.
These measures include:
Exclusion from International Competitions: Athletes, team officials, and technical personnel from Russia and Belarus are barred from participating in any international archery events indefinitely.
Suspension of Hosting Rights: Both countries are prohibited from hosting or bidding to host international archery events.
* removal of National symbols: The flags and anthems of Russia and Belarus will no longer be displayed at international archery competitions.
The FFTA fully supports these decisive actions taken by World Archery and will diligently enforce them.
beyond these measures, the FFTA extends its unwavering support and solidarity to the Ukrainian people, notably the members of the Ukrainian archery team. The federation fervently hopes for an end to the hostilities and a swift return to peace and stability in the region. The current conflict serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of peace and the importance of international cooperation in upholding it.
