Since 2016, ASPTT Montpellier has taken the step of padel. At the heart of the Grammont area, the Montpellier club has four courts, two of which were built in the summer of 2021, for its 130 members. Tennis Padel Mauguio

In Mauguio too, the padel fever is rising from year to year. Victim of its success and often full from late afternoon until evening, Tennis Padel Mauguio is planning the construction of a fifth court reserved for practice in addition to those that have existed for five years.

“Padel is more accessible from a certain age, it is less demanding for the body, explains Patrick Pinon, vice-president of the club and head of padel. It is also more accessible for people who have never played tennis before. We have fun from the first hour of play when we start.”

The Mauguio tennis club has also found it interesting to have developed this sport since it now has two hundred players among its five hundred members. “We try to organize one tournament per month, he continues. Even if departmental and regional competitions are almost non-existent at the moment, the federation is taking into account the strong development of padel.”

My Center Palavas

Just 300 meters from the beach, My Center Palavas offers an exceptional structure between Montpellier and the Mediterranean. “I intend to make it a stronghold in terms of education and training for the whole of the South of France in terms of padel”, assures Yannick Maurel. The center where tennis is also played has four outdoor padel courts.

The Montpellier Squash Club, a pioneer in the Metropolis

Every evening from 5 p.m., the Squash Club Montpellier is packed. Practitioners share, according to reservations, the six squash courts and the three badminton courts. Its geographical location, north of Montpellier in an area that brings together more than two hundred companies, is its strength. Its history too, the Squash Club has existed since 1980. It was the first place of its kind to emerge in the city.

“Historically, there were three courts, changing rooms and a gym”, explains Cédric Mallol who took over the structure in 1995, soon joined by Karine Guéraud to form a duo of partners. “We then launched fitness and bodybuilding. In 2013, badminton was developed with the creation of three courts. Today, we have six squash courts and rooms occupied by kung fu or pilat associations by example.”

Open daily from 10 a.m., the Montpellier Squash Club is also very busy between noon and 2 p.m. “The multiplicity of sports activities has hurt us, concedes Cédric Mallol. But squash is an accessible sport where we have fun very quickly. We strive to provide good equipment to our customers according to their level so that they have fun and come back.” “Squash is a technical sport and a particular effort, continues Karine Guéraud. Whereas in badminton, we are face to face, the shuttlecocks can be slow, it’s easier.”

The Squash Club of Montpellier is a place where people get together several times a week to play sports or just have a moment of sharing. “Some loyal customers even come several times a day, rejoices Cédric Mallol.
