A French car brand will replace another on the courts of the French Open tennis tournament.
Diamonds instead of Lions? After more than thirty years of collaboration, Peugeot should end its partnership with the Roland-Garros tennis tournament. Renault would be the new sponsor of the internationals of France.
“There is no nothing official yet “, we are told on the side of the French Tennis Federation, which will organize the next tournament from May 22 to June 5, 2022. But according to our information, an official announcement should be made in the coming days.
“No comments”, we assure the side of the direction of the communication of Renault. Contacted, Peugeot spokespersons have not yet answered our questions.

Renault goes upmarket
Peugeot had been a partner of the Roland-Garros tournament since 1984 before becoming its official carrier five editions later. Sochaux had capitalized on the prestige of clay by multiplying the special series. With their bottle green livery and their rich endowment of equipment, the Peugeot 205, 405 or 306 Roland-Garros had enjoyed great commercial success.
The chic image of the Grand Slam tournament would therefore now benefit Renault, which would join the long-standing sponsors of the event such as BNP-Paribas, Perrier or Lacoste. With the arrival at its head of a marketing man – Luca de Meo – the tricolor group intends to “go upmarket”.

The end of tennis at Peugeot
The Stellantis group – of which Peugeot is a part – also withdraws from tennis by terminating his contract with the winner of the 2021 edition, Novak Djokovic. The Serbian player has recently been the subject of a virulent controversy around his vaccination status and his expulsion from Australian territory.
#Djokovic and Peugeot will not be partners going forward, I am told.
Peugeot has taken a huge hit financially during the pandemic, and Djokovic was a big client. I am told that his stance on vaccination is not the reason, let’s see if both sides have more to say on the topic.
