Without De Bruyne, Manchester City will no longer get into trouble in an unnecessary match | UEFA Champions League 2021/2022

Manchester City could start the game with peace of mind. They won the first leg 0-5, only a big miracle could keep them out of the quarterfinals.

Kevin De Bruyne started on the bench, Pep Guardiola gave him some rest.

Manchester City immediately put pressure on Sporting CP, but the Portuguese club did not crack. They could count on a strong Antonio Adán who kept his nets clean. There were no great chances in the 1st half.

The second half started well for City. Raheem Sterling scored after a nice attacking play by Riyad Mahrez, but the VAR ruled out his goal for offside.

The invaders played themselves in the spotlight. Marcus Edwards created danger at Sporting CP. He gave a nice pass to Paulinho, but he bumped into an alert Scott Carson.

At Manchester City it was James McAtee who caused danger. In the final minute of the game he reached Sterling via a lob, but he was unable to finish.

The match ends in a scoreless draw and so we see Manchester City again in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The Citizens were already sure of a place in the next round in the first leg.
