World Archery punishes Russian and Belarusian archers

World Archery, the world body that manages all archery events, announced that archers belonging to Russia and Belarus, as well as technical officials from these two nations, will not be able to participate in competitions of any category endorsed by this organization until the war on Ukrainian territory.

“As of March 2, 2022, no athlete, team official or technical official from Russia or Belarus will be allowed to participate in any international archery event until further notice”

– Mentioned the agency in the statement.

Through a statement, the International Archery Federation reported on the decisions related to the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) not to call Russian and Belarusian athletes to competitions, as a result of the war between Russia and Ukraine, as it has caused deaths in Ukrainian athletes and soccer players.

“World Archery does not wish to penalize any athlete who shares the Olympic values and agrees that war and violence have no place in this world, but must prioritize the integrity of the competitions and fair access to them as part of the unified sports response to the current crisis in Ukraine”

The sanctions imposed come after Russia broke the Olympic Truce pact, this includes the prohibition of Russians and Belarusians from being able to organize international events on their territory. Likewise, they will not be able to participate in world rankings that offer points or in any World Archery or World Archery Europe competition.

“World Archery does not wish to penalize any athlete who shares the Olympic values and agrees that war and violence have no place in this world, but must prioritize the integrity of the competitions and fair access to them as part of the unified sports response to the current crisis in Ukraine”

World Archery will work together with the International Olympic Committee, the Ukrainian Olympic Committee and the Ukrainian Archery Federation to support athletes and continue to provide humanitarian aid to members of communities affected by the crisis.
