Wout van Aert was a guest of Geraint Thomas this week in his podcast ‘Geraint Thomas Cycling Club’. There was also talk about the Tour de France.
Wout van Aert has clearly set his sights on this year’s Tour de France. The green jersey is the main goal. “In recent years I was always successful in the Tour, but then it was more about seizing the opportunities when they presented themselves,” says Van Aert.
“This year I will try to grab as many points as possible for the green jersey at the beginning of the Tour. So it’s a big goal for me, yes.”
According to Van Aert, this can be combined with the ambitions of the team. “I have already shown in the past that I can combine my work for the team and personal success.”
Van Aert also wants to wear yellow for at least one day. “The first week looks very tough. The time trial on day one is of course an opportunity for me to wear the yellow jersey. That is also a great goal. I just came up short last year.”
