With a victory of 42 points to 37, Yautepec won the championship over the Warriors team in a grand finale played on the sports field of the municipal seat.
With the participation of 10 teams in the men’s free category, the basketball tournament organized by the Municipal League of Yautepec was held, which has been active since last October.
The regular phase matches were held on two stages, the Atlihuayán Sports Unit and the Sports Center itself.
The participating squads were, in addition to the two mentioned finalists, the Capitanes, Guerreros, Barra Team, Lakers, Hornets, San Carlos, Pichones, and the Bulls.
After playing a first qualifying stage in which everyone was played against everyone, at the beginning of this year the playoff round began in its different stages until defining the teams that played the match for the highest pennant.
As a prelude, the teams eliminated in the semifinals, the Barra Team and the Pichones, played the match for third place with a victory for the former by a score of 47 points to 37.
In the long-awaited match for the title, the match was more even and in the end the quintet from Yautepec raised the fist of victory by defining the difference baskets in the crucial moments over a Warriors team that was a worthy opponent.
It is worth mentioning that, due to the conditions of the epidemiological traffic light, the definition of the grand finale was postponed for a few days, however, it was finally held at the CDY Sports Center facilities, sports coordinator Gustavo Belaunzarán Álvarez reported.
“The most anticipated matches of the entire tournament took place to define the champion, after almost 5 months of waiting in which there was an exciting activity from October to February,” he commented.
The tournament has come to an end and from now on the Yautepec Municipal League is already planning the start of its new 2022 season, which will continue to be played under the sanitary rules that the new normal implies.
