Korean badminton has harvested three gold medals at the Korea Open held for the first time in three years. It is the first record in six years since Korea won three or more events at the Korea Open in 2016 after men’s doubles Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-yeon, women’s doubles Jeong Kyung-eun-Shin Seung-chan and mixed doubles Ko Seong-hyeon and Kim Hana won in 2016.

First, Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance, 4th in the world ranking), the signboard of women’s badminton, won the women’s singles championship.

Ahn Se-young defeated Poornpawi Cho Chuwong (Thailand) 2-0 (21-17, 21-18) in the final of the 2022 Korea Open Badminton Championships (Korea Open) held at Palma Gymnasium in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do on the 10th.

Ahn Se-young, who is showing off her top-level skills by winning the runner-up at the Jeonyeong Open (Super 1000), the world’s most prestigious international badminton tournament held last month, won this tournament for the first time in three years, establishing herself as the ace of Korean women’s badminton.

In particular, from the first round to the final, he stood at the top of the world with his perfect performance that did not give up even a single set in four matches.

With Ahn Se-young’s victory, Korea became the first Korea Open women’s singles champion in seven years since Seong Ji-hyun in 2015.

Cho Chu-Wong, who reached the final by beating Korea’s Ga-eun Kim (Samsung Life Insurance, 20th) in the semi-final the day before, was no match for Ahn Se-young.

Se-Young Ahn, who was ahead in the first set, allowed a chase in the middle and allowed the tie to be 16-16, but after that, she took down 4 points and brought the atmosphere.

Ahn Se-young led Cho Chu-Wong’s Beom-sil again at the 20-17 set points and took the first set first.

The second set was similar to the first set. Ahn Se-young, who maintained a 2-3 point lead throughout the game, allowed Cho Chu-Wong to pursue the match and the score was tied at 18-18.

However, Ahn Se-young’s back was stronger. Ahn Se-young, who made 20-18 match points by showing concentration, once again led the opponent to make a mistake and took the championship cup.

In the women’s doubles final, Jeong Na-eun (Hwasun County Office) and Kim Hye-jeong (Samsung Life Insurance) won the championship by beating Thailand’s Benyapa Imsaad-Nuntakarn Aimsad 2-0 (21-16, 21-12).

Jeong Na-eun and Kim Hye-jeong, who had a remarkable rise to third place by beating world No. 1 Cheon Qing-cheon and Zaipan (China) at the All-Young Open last month, showed a high level of performance against the Thai group that day.

At the beginning of the first set, in a 7-7 tie, he induced the opponent to make a mistake and came back 8-7, and after that, he held the lead until the end and took the first set.

In the second set, they put a solid defense at the forefront, and the Thai group made a lot of mistakes, and Na-eun Jeong and Hye-jeong Kim were able to win the championship without any major difficulties.

In the men’s doubles final, Kang Min-hyeok (Samsung Life Insurance) and Seo Seung-jae (Army Sports Corps), who formed a team in November last year, competed 2-1 (19-21, 21-15, 21-) with Indonesia’s Pazar Alpian-Muhammad Ryan Ardianto 18) to win.

On the other hand, mixed doubles Ko Seong-hyeon (35) and Eom Hye-won (31, Gimcheon City Hall) lost to Malaysia’s Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei-Jing in the final 0-2 (15-21, 18-21) and took the disappointing runner-up.
