QUERÉTARO, Qro., April 2, 2022.- The rector of the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ), Dr. Teresa García Gasca, accompanied by Mtra. Guadalupe Perea Ortiz, Secretary of Linkage and University Services and Lic. Félix Capilla Pérez, General Coordinator of University Sports, championed the university delegation of this Institution, made up of 180 athletes, who compete for the regional phase of the National Universiade CONDDE 2022 , which takes place from April 1 to 8 in the city of San Luis Potosí.
During this act, Dr. García Gasca recognized the effort that has been made from the General Coordination of University Sports to get ahead despite the challenges that the pandemic implies without neglecting her work, as well as that demonstrated by the students themselves. athletes to earn the opportunity to compete in these qualifiers. She invited them to give their best effort and demonstrate the talent of the UAQ athletes.
“You are here today on your own merit, because you did not stop believing in yourself, because you did not stop working hard, training, despite adversity and personal or family difficulties; I am very proud that we have such an important contingent that will attend these regional competitions and I am sure that they will have excellent results”, the Rector encouraged the contingent.
For his part, the Mtro. Félix Alberto Capilla Pérez affirmed that this moment was emotional because it marks the face-to-face return of university sports, for which he recognized the effort of each and one of them to earn their place based on effort and to overcome many tests, both sports and personal and economic during the last months. He also thanked the support of the University for strengthening this area and walking hand in hand with sports.
The UAQ athletes classified in the group discipline: men’s volleyball, women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, men’s fences soccer, women’s fences soccer; and, for the first time in history, the participation of the “tochito” women’s flag soccer team; in addition, in the individual disciplines of taekwondo, table tennis, archery, chess and athletics.
In addition to participating in the qualifying championships for combat disciplines, which will be held in the states of Morelos and San Luis Potosí, such as: wrestling, karate, judo, poomsae and weightlifting, the UAQ will host the fencing qualifying on the 23 to April 26 of this year.
Those in charge of carrying the institutional pennants were the student from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and athletics competitor, Ana Victoria Alarcón, and the student from the Faculty of Nursing and associated wrestling athlete, Jorge Alberto Olvera.
