A rich fortnight is coming

A little over two years from the event, the IOC Executive Board validated the calendar of the Paris Olympic Games on Friday, with certain competitions which will start two days before the Opening Ceremony and the desire to highlight all disciplines.

The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are getting a little more concrete. While the Opening Ceremony planned on the Seine will take place in just over two years, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has given more substance to the event. Indeed, during the meeting of its Executive Committee, the organization based in Lausanne has given the green light to the calendar of the 19 days of competitionwhich is “the result of a long collective effort involving, alongside Paris 2024, the international sports movement (the International Federations, the International Olympic Committee), the host broadcaster of the Games OBS (Olympic Broadcasting Services) and public players to provide the best possible experience for athletes and spectators alike”. The first commitment materialized by this calendar is the possibility for all the athletes involved to participate in at least one of the two ceremonies. Indeed, the surfing events organized in Tahiti will begin on July 27, in order to allow athletes wishing to participate in the Closing Ceremony to reach France in time.

Early start for several disciplines and medals from the start

Although the Opening Ceremony will take place on July 26, the first rounds will be a bit early. In effect, handball at Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille, rugby 7 at Stade de France and football tournaments will start on July 24. The Summer Olympics in Paris will get off to a strong start with no less than eight Olympic titles awarded on July 27, the day after the Opening Ceremony. Cycling (women’s and men’s time trials), judo, fencing, diving, rugby, shooting, swimming and skateboarding will open the ball rolling. While the program of swimming and athletics events has been adapted during the recent Games, these two disciplines will be highlighted with the programming of the finals in the evening at the Paris-La Défense Arena and at the Stade de France. Another highlight of these Games will be the Place de la Concorde with a program allowing the organization of events throughout the fortnight. If the skateboard will launch the festivities, it is the breakdance which will lower the curtain during the last weekend.

The conclusion of team sports as the final bouquet

Paris will also be the center of attention with the road races but also in the Seine which will be spread over the whole of the fortnight. After the time trial in cycling, the triathlon, walking, road races in cycling, swimming in open water and the marathon will follow one another in the heart of the city. Another highlight of these Paris Summer Olympics will be the intermediate weekend. Indeed, no less than fifteen sports will be involved in the finals: tennis, table tennis, judo (mixed team event), fencing, athletics, archery, shooting, cycling (on-line races), golf, horse riding , rowing, artistic gymnastics, badminton and swimming. Finally, for a grand final, team sports will be highlighted over the last four days with a program allowing the finals not to overlap. The women’s and men’s field hockey, handball, football, beach volleyball, volleyball, basketball and water polo finals will be split into the home stretch of the Games. Although the full schedule will not be confirmed before the end of the first half of 2022, it is already certain thatno event will start before 7:30 a.m. and that the day will last until 11:30 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
