A1 – Schio goes to Bologna and ends the regular season undefeated

It is the most classic of the icing on the cake. The Famila Wuber gives himself the twenty-third consecutive victory in the championship by conquering the Virtus Segafredo Arena for 54-64 and closes the regular season undefeated for the first time in its history.

Even in a not particularly brilliant evening with a low score and several moments of confusion on the pitch (physiological for the last match of the regular season), Schio manages to establish himself on Virtus in the remake of the Italian Cup final. Decisive performances by Laksa and Mestdagh at long distance shooting (4/6 the Latvian, 4/5 the Belgian), the good rebounding presence (37 to 43) and the best ball circulation (15 to 20 assists); to underline the non-use of Sottana for precautionary purposes.

Crackling start of the game: in the first ninety seconds there is a lot of scoring and the triples of Zandalasini and Laksa are worth 5-6. The percentages of achievement drop and the score in the following three and a half minutes only moves with two baskets on each side. The entrance from the bench of Mestdagh is immediately decisive: the Belgian burns the retina on the first two shots taken and sends the oranges ahead 11-16. Then, however, an avalanche of turnovers from the Famila and Turner supports three consecutive counter-attacks for a 9-0 break. Last shots signed from the arc by Zandalasini and Mestdagh: 23-21.

It was Captain Dotto who equalized at the opening of the second quarter while he worried about Turner’s limping exit in the 12 ‘: he will return a few minutes later, reassuring everyone about his physical state. In the meantime Gruda raises the laps in the painting and signs the overtaking in the middle of the period at 27-29. Two acrobatic plays by Battisodo are canceled by Laksa’s triple final which is worth the draw at 34.

Schio rises to the chair when he returns to the field: a very strong defense that keeps Virtus dry for four minutes and extraordinary precision from the bow with Laksa and Keys make the oranges fly to +9. At 26 ‘Mestdagh remedies the 0/2 to the free with the fourth triple of the evening for the maximum advantage over +12. Cinili and Zandalasini try to shake the black voices that at the thirtieth run after 46-53.

Sagerer’s immediate triple brings the bianconere back together but finds a prompt response from Verona which pays off with the same coin in his first and only basket of the evening. Del Pero (many minutes on the pitch for her) also signs up for the game with the jumper from the throw-in and with Gruda’s basket at 36 ‘is again +11. Laksa responds to the new three-point attempt by Sagerer while Andrè sets the accent for the final 54-64.
