A new abuse scandal is shaking the US sports world: US tennis talent Kylie McKenzie has sued the national tennis association. The 23-year-old was sexually harassed by a former coach during tennis training and, in her opinion, was not adequately protected by the tennis association.
Tennis coach with a dubious background
There are bad allegations that the talent directs against their coach. Kyle McKenzie has accused former coach Anibal Aranda of sexual abuse. As the newspaper “Blick” reports, the player revealed all the details during a press conference a few days ago. Accordingly, her coach is said to have groped her intimately in 2018 under the pretext of showing her a serve technique. McKenzie was 19 at the time.
McKenzie is not only suing Aranda himself, but also the United States Tennis Association (USTA). This is said to have not sufficiently protected the young woman from the coach. Aranda may have had a history of assaulting women, McKenzie said. However, the USTA claims that this was only revealed as part of McKenzie’s allegations.
Now the American organization “SafeSport”, which deals with the investigation of sexual abuse in sports, intervenes. Aranda was suspended for two years and placed on probation for an additional two years.
As the “New York Times” reports, the coach denies the allegations to this day. He also cannot remember touching other employees inappropriately.
As the young American reports, she has been suffering from physical and mental injuries since the terrible incident. Her lawyers are currently fighting for compensation in the United States. The investigations are ongoing. (lgr)
