Sorelois Alexis Hogue lost in the quarter-finals at the Provincial College Badminton Championship held on April 8 at the Cégep de Sherbrooke.
The representative of the Rebelles du Cégep de Sorel-Tracy, who had managed to qualify in men’s singles for this competition, had no difficulty getting out of the preliminary round by easily defeating his opponents.
In the quarterfinals, he faced a Sherbrooke Volunteer player with whom he had already played a very tight set in the regular season. He was able to enjoy the support of his teammates, but Alexis Hogue managed to warm him up, even in the middle of the game, he had the lead over his opponent. The latter, however, recovered to win in two tight sleeves.
Alexis Hogue is therefore one of the eight best college badminton players in Quebec. According to his coaches Daniel Valois and Martin Jacob, this is a feat considering that the Sorelois is only 17 years old and that he is in his first year on the circuit. He also faced opponents more experienced than him throughout the season.
“He is a badminton enthusiast who is ready to do anything to improve. He owes this remarkable performance to the seriousness he takes during his training as well as to his impeccable physical preparation. It will be very interesting to follow his badminton journey next year,” commented MM. Valois and Jacob.
According to them, their protege can emerge with his head held high from this Provincial Championship since his opponent had also won against the eventual gold medalist of the tournament during the preliminary round by the same score as Alexis.
