Algeria-Cameroon: FIFA verdict expected today

This Thursday, April 21, 2022 is a day of truth at FIFA. It is indeed today that the Disciplinary Commission of the world body will decide on the case of the match Algeria – Cameroon of the return dam of the 2022 World Cup.

Algeria are still hoping to go to Qatar in November. If the Fennecs are to date eliminated from the 2022 World Cup after the terrible play-off return against Cameroon (2-1 defeat after extra time) on March 29 in Blida, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has filed an appeal with FIFA with a view to replaying the match. The FAF denounces “a scandalous arbitration having distorted the result of the match”.

The Disciplinary Committee of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has studied the case and will deliver its verdict on Thursday. According to sports commentators, the request of the 2019 African champions would be doomed to failure. The World Cup draw has already taken place. And the referee targeted by the Fennecs, Papa Gassama is one of the officials selected for the competition. The proof if it were still needed that the Gambian managed the match of Blida – and many others – with professionalism and without bias as the Algerians suggest. Among the contested decisions of the referee, the FAF mentions the “two Algerian goals” refused to Islam Slimani (offside and handball) and two clashes in the Cameroonian area on Rachid Ghezzal or Youcef Belaïli not sanctioned.

The other business

Note that the Algeria – Cameroon case will not be the only one on the table of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee. But also the complaints concerning the matches Senegal – Egypt, Nigeria – Ghana and the request of Morocco against the DR Congo for ill-treatment. Egypt had filed a complaint against Senegal for “racist violence and chants” in the stands of the stadium. Ghana blames Nigeria for the events of the second leg in Abuja. Morocco for its part attacks the DR Congo for “ill-treatment” of its delegation in Kinshasa during the first leg.
