Last Monday at the Government Delegation in Río Grande, the Secretary of Sports and Youth, Carlos Turdó, together with the Undersecretary of High Performance, Gabriel Coto, presented the diplomas of recognition to Martina Szarapo, Dianela Leonardelli and Priscilla Fernández, three of the Fuegian athletes summoned to represent Argentina in the III South American Youth Games Rosario 2022, which will take place in that city from April 28 to May 8, with the participation of 14 countries in 33 modalities of 30 sports.
BIG RIVER.- Carlos Turdó thanked the athletes and their families for their presence and highlighted the effort made. “I know it’s difficult and getting to this call is already an achievement, from here on they just have to enjoy and be happy with what they do,” he said.
Martina Zsarapo is a member of the National Judo Team, she is 15 years old and days after traveling to Rosario, she said that “it is a dream that I saw far away, but now that the date is approaching I am very happy, because I set a goal for myself and I fulfilled it. Besides, I’m not alone, I always have the support of my family, my coaches and the Secretariat”.
For his part, Gabriel Coto congratulated the athletes who participated virtually in the case of the taekwondo athlete Priscilla Fernádez and in person in the case of the judoka. While the parents of Dianela Leonardelli, a member of the Taekwondo Selection, were present at her representation. “You are the mirror of many girls and boys who know that if they give everything in sports schools, they will have the opportunity, like you, to fight with the best in the country and now they will do it with the best in the world”-
While the coaches Diego Costilla and Julio Cruz, representatives of the Judo and Taekwondo Federations respectively, pointed out that “this is one more step in the sports career, we always work to be able to be in the Games and we are very happy to be able to reach here”.
In addition, the Secretary of Sports anticipated that today the same recognition will be made to Renata Godoy, an athlete who is a member of the National Athletics Team who recently became national champion of the elderly in Concepción del Uruguay, at only 16 years of age.
Finally, yesterday afternoon the ENARD shared the complete list of athletes who will be in the youth event, and to the delight of the entire province, the Futsal players from Rio Grande do Sul, Lautaro Yañez and Tomás Becco, both in Boca Juniors, passed the cut final and they are already players of the Argentine National Team under 18.
