Boris in court – does Becker’s cluelessness have a “system”? – People

Tennis star Boris Becker (54) was questioned on Monday in the criminal proceedings at Southwark Crown Court about the role of his wife Lilly Becker (45) after his bankruptcy.

The Leimener is accused in 24 cases of having concealed accounts, company shares or trophies after his bankruptcy.

Becker appeared before the criminal court in London at 10 a.m. on Monday and was told on the spot that the hearing did not have to be repeated.

“I have good news,” said judge Deborah Taylor, saying that two of the three judges who were ill recently reported back healthy. This enables the jury to reach a clear decision as required by UK law.

Becker appeared in a black suit with girlfriend Lilian and then took the witness stand. The jury experienced an uncomfortable afternoon for the tennis star.

Time and time again, prosecutor Rebecca Chalkley tried to convince the jury and court that Becker’s ignorance of his finances or property was just a fake “system” and that he was concocting his truth “so he wouldn’t end up paying any money.” must. Becker denied this as well as all other allegations, saying again and again: “That’s not correct.”

During the interrogation, the court and jury learned that Becker resigned as director of his own company BBPOL shortly before his bankruptcy in June 2017 and was replaced by his wife Lilly as boss. Prosecutor Chalkley accused Becker of then transferring funds from his private account to the company account and then treating it more or less “like his own account”.

According to the indictment, Becker’s behavior shows that he was anything but clueless and that he was supposed to have known the rules of private bankruptcy.

According to the indictment, Becker also knew about the property in Leimen, which he allegedly kept secret from the insolvency administrator.

“They signed a one-page document called ‘My Property’ in 2008 that listed the property in question,” says Chalkley. Becker, on the other hand, explained that he only skimmed the list at the time and had no idea.

Another topic was the luxury apartment in Chelsea, where his daughter Anna recently lived.

According to the public prosecutor, Becker is said to have stated in 2017 that it was his own apartment. “I was a little too optimistic,” Becker said. At the time, he did not know how high his shares in the apartment were, in which his ex-affair and mother of his daughter Angela Ermakova is also involved.

From Wednesday, the jury is to retire to make a decision. The prosecution and defense will hold their pleas on Tuesday.

Becker faces up to seven years in prison. He sat on the witness stand with a translator and denied all 24 charges.
