Bumgarner will go for the D-backs on Opening Day

Veteran Madison Bumgarner will start for the D-backs on Opening Day against the Padres at Chase Field.

For Bumgarner this will be his eighth start in the season opener, the third-most among active pitchers behind only Justin Verlander (12) and Clayton Kershaw (nine).

It will be the third straight time Bumgarner has started for the Arizona team on Opening Day.

The veteran has a 4.08 earned run average in 39.2 innings of maiden starts.
