Chilean duo at the PGA: Joaquín Niemann and Mito Pereira will play the Zurich Classic together

For the first time in history, two Chileans will play a PGA tournament as a pair. It will obviously be Joaquín Niemann and Mito Pereira, who will appear as a pair in the Zurich Classic, the only championship in this format that the most important golf tour in the world has. In New Orleans they will have to face nine of the best 15 players on the planet.

The TPC Louisina in New Orleans will host the new edition of the Zurich Classic, the only doubles tournament on the PGA Tour and one of the most entertaining events on the golfing calendar. One that in this 2022 will have a special flavor for the Chilean public.

And it is that Joaquín Niemann and Mito Pereira will bring to the field the great friendship they have formed over the years. The organization confirmed the news on Monday afternoon and caused great joy among the national fans, who will finally be able to see the two Chileans compete side by side. Most likely, the coach of both, Edo Miquel, will also be present at the tournament that starts on April 18.

For Niemann it will be his first tournament after the 35th position achieved in the Augusta Masters and where will debut as the new number 15 on the planet. Mito for his part returns to action after not having been able to play the first major of the season by not getting the invitation. His last tournament had been the Valero Texas Open.

The tournament breakdown consists of two different rounds before the cutoff. The first is disputed under the best ball format, where each golfer throws his own ball and where the team gets the lower score of both. already during on Friday the “foursomes” will be playedthat is to say to the alternate shot.

During Saturday and Sunday they will play with a split system, with one turn for each scoring system. It should be noted that to make the cut, the Chileans must be among the best 35 pairs of the contest.

Some of the duos that will be present will be Collin Morikawa and Victor Hovland, Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman, Sergio García and Tommy Fleetwood, as well as Ryan Palmer and Scottie Scheffler. The latter recent champion of the Augusta Masters and number one in the world ranking.

The team that wins the crown will earn 400 FedEx Cup points, plus a two-year exemption from the PGA Tour.
