What BILD readers have known for a long time has been official since Wednesday: sports director Otmar Schork (64) extends his contract with 1. FC Magdeburg until 2024 and is promoted to sports director.
Explosive: His promotion also means another loss of power for Mario Kallnik (48)! The ex-captain has been THE strong man at FCM since the beginning of 2016. In November 2020, however, he gave up his dual function in favor of the new head of sport. Now the next incision!
Supervisory board boss Lutz Petermann (57): “Mario Kallnik was previously the sole managing director, that has now changed. Both managing directors are no longer authorized to represent alone. Everyone decides for their own area, but the other one has to approve it as well.”
What comes next: It is unclear whether Kallnik will receive a new contract in the summer. He himself said to BILD on Thursday: “There were already talks in March. There I explained that I could imagine an extension – but the conditions had to be right. I am delighted that Otmar Schork has become Managing Director.”
Nevertheless: the club management is also looking for other candidates! Petermann: “The aim is to further develop the FCM in the new constellation. We’re negotiating whether that happens with Mario Kallnik or with someone else.”

Interesting: Schork, on the other hand, is set – although he took nine months before he even wanted to be promoted!
“It was important to me to see the club’s further development,” explains Schork, who focused on the infrastructural problems around the stadium. “In the constellation with the city, operating company and FCM, I felt a lot of cold and ice until the summer, everyone did their thing. A lot was and is a mess.”
And now? Schork: “At the moment it’s like being in a well-heated swimming pool. But it’s not a comfort class yet.”
Because in the future he wants more professional structures and more space for professionals and young people. Schork: “These points require more skills. For me that means more responsibility and more work, but I can have a say.”
