[스포츠조선 최만식 기자] College Badminton Dark Horse Cheondae Kim founded the women’s college team.
While some universities have recently disbanded their badminton teams due to financial difficulties, it is an encouraging sign that Kim Cheon-dae established a women’s club following the men’s club.
Kim Chun Dae recently held a ceremony for the inauguration of four sports, including women’s badminton, judo, track and field, and wrestling at the school gym.
The inauguration ceremony, held under the Corona 19 quarantine rules, was attended by major regional figures, including Ok-hyeon Yun, President of Gimcheon University, Kim Choong-seop, Mayor of Gimcheon, Lee Woo-cheong, Chairman of the Gimcheon City Council, Park Tae-chun, a member of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly, Ha-young Kim, President of Gyeongbuk Sports Complex, and Han-dong Choi, President of the Gyeongbuk Badminton Association.

In the founding address, President Yoon Ok-hyeon said, “No one can ever defeat someone who enjoys it. I hope that players with infinite potential will challenge themselves with the confidence of ‘I can do it’ amidst countless challenges and realize their wonderful dreams to their heart’s content at Gimcheon University.” he encouraged
Kimcheon University’s men’s badminton team, led by coach Min-ho Kim, advanced to the quarterfinals with the best results at the ‘2021 Jeonghyang-nuri National University Badminton Championships’ in September last year, followed by the ‘2021 National Interscholastic (College) Badminton Championships’ in December. It took third place in a row and emerged as ‘Dark Horse’. Considering that it is a new team that was established in March of last year, it was an amazing growth. These achievements led to the expansion of the women’s team.
On the other hand, Gimcheon University is sparing no support as a sports specialized college, such as producing famous athletes in judo.
