Gijs de Jong, secretary general of the KNVB, supports Louis van Gaal’s statements about the World Cup in Qatar. The board member agrees with the Orange national coach that the final tournament should never have been organized in the oil state.
Van Gaal said during the press conference that he finds it ‘bullshit’ that Qatar can host the World Cup. “I completely agree with Louis that the tournament was assigned on the wrong ground,” De Jong said to Op1. “In 2010, when it was awarded, we immediately said we disagreed with both the process and the criteria. That’s what Louis says.” Twelve years ago, the Netherlands and Belgium also made a bid for the 2022 World Cup, but it became Qatar.
“The people who chose this at the time are now dead, suspended or in prison,” De Jong points out to the corruption. “It is a two-stage rocket.
