Rebels Gamingthe eSports project of David De Geahas added a fourth team to its structure with the addition of an all-female team from Valorant, one of the great goals of the Manchester United goalkeeper when he decided to bet on eSports last November.

In this way, Rebels Gaming will compete in women’s circuits such as Valorant’s Game Changers: “From Rebels we want to make visible the female talent that exists in eSports, which is a lot, while promoting diversity and equal opportunities in this exciting sector“De Gea said in the statement announcing the creation of this new women’s squad, baptized as Rebels Velvet. »Esports must be exemplary in terms of diversity, opening up to all kinds of audiences and profiles«, added the goalkeeper, a true fan of women’s sports.

According to a study prepared by MediaCom in 2021 referred to by Rebels Gaming, 40% of gamers globally are women. In Spain this figure is somewhat higher, reaching 42% of female presence in the sector. Riot Games, developer of Valorant, is also making a firm commitment to gender diversity in the competitive space of this game, promoting different tournaments.

“All of us who make up Rebels are committed to this new team, in which we firmly believe and which we trust will serve as an inspiration to continue promoting the fans among the female public,” said De Gea.

The team is made up of Paula Moreno, Patricia Martínez, Paula Blanco, Lidia del Moral and Scarlett LeHoste, trained by Pablo Peña.
