It went wrong with the substitution of French attacker Kingsley Coman, who, according to the fourth man’s board, would be replaced by Austrian Sabitzer. At that moment, however, Corentin Tolisso ran to the catacombs. He turned out because of stomach cramps on the way to the toilet. Coman therefore thought that his compatriot was being replaced and remained standing.
The error was noticed almost immediately by Freiburg players, after which the referee interrupted the game and went to the sidelines. “I noticed Niklas came in and nobody got out,” Freiburg defender Nico Schlotterbeck told Sky TV. “It was confusing”, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann also had to admit. “But it only lasted a few seconds and it didn’t have a decisive impact on the game.”
Bayern led 3-1 at that time. It is not yet clear whether the incident has consequences for Bayern Munich, but the screenshot with the eleven Bayern field players was in any case fully shared on social media. The chance that Bayern will be penalized does not seem great, German media reported, which are based on rules of the German football association DFB.
