Draft 2023 | Victor Wembanyama continues a new reference match

After his fine performance with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 blocks against Zalgiris Kaunas in the Euroleague at the end of March, Victor Wembanyama (2m19, 18 years old) confirms his good form at the end of the season.

Sunday in the French championship, for the reception of Portel at the Astroballe, the great hope of French basketball simply achieved his best career match with 25 points (10/16 on shots including 3/4 at three points), 7 rebounds and 3 blocks in 25 minutes, in an undisputed victory (85-65).

Increasingly empowered for a good month, after a somewhat difficult season due to injuries, Wembanyama showed what he was warming up with a very good start to the match marked by two successes beyond the arc of outset (during an initial 14-7), but even more after returning from the locker room, scoring a whopping 14 points in the third quarter alone. And this, with the way!

It started with a basket plus the foul (in a single gesture, with a one-handed reception chained by the finish), then a small baseline shot after a dribble between the legs and a small turn on itself (a “spin “) before placing a big dunk on the counterattack which will cause Portel to time out.

The Wembanyama tornado then continued their damage, with a 3-point reception shot on the wing after providing the defensive rebound, then a good position inside concluded with a right hand layup before adding a new dunk by playing the raise. Author of 25 points, his first match with more than 20 points in the hexagonal elite, Wembanyama showed the rather incredible extent of his talent.

Still physically light, Wembanyama is already a phenomenon on the courts of France. Even “bumped”, he can stay in defensive action and succeed in the counter (against the former Villanova, Mouphtaou Yarou in this case). Already considered the big favorite for first place in the 2023 Draft, Wembanyama confirms at the end of the season that he has his hands full of basketball.

And, with this young giant capable of doing everything on the ground, Asvel intends to defend its crown tooth and nail, knowing that its European season is well and truly over.
