Big fight, no points! After the 2-1 draw against Schalke 04, Dynamo Dresden is the only team in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga to remain without a win in the second half of the season.
Incredibly bitter! In the Rudolf Harbig Stadium, which was sold out for the first time in over two years, Dynamo was the dominant team in front of 30,273 spectators in the first half.
But that now runs like a red thread through the second half of the season: Once again, the effort was disproportionate to the benefit.
Schalke and his goalscorer Simon Terodde are completely different!
45 minutes there was not much to see from the top second division goalscorer and his team. Then, shortly before half-time, he uses a mistake made by Tim Knipping in Dynamo’s build-up game, is brought down by Paul Will in the penalty area – and then converts the penalty himself to a flattering Schalke lead.
Knipping annoyed: “It’s clearly my fault. We threw everything in, tried everything. And then the team is punished by a carelessness on my part. I’m incredibly sorry.”
With the first chance after the change of sides, Terodde then increased his second goal to 2:0 (51st). Again a lost duel by Dynamo captain Knipping was preceded.
Dynamo came through Will’s first second division goal (70th) again. But without Christoph Daferner, who was suffering from Corona, there was simply not enough power in the Schalke penalty area in the final phase.
In the end, the bitter realization remained: Dynamo was able to stand up to a top team in the 2nd division for a long time, but still couldn’t win the eleventh game in a row…
