Ecuadorians travel to Lima for the Pan American Judo

Ecuador will participate in the Pan American and Oceania judo championships, junior and absolute categories, which will be held in Lima, Peru from April 8 to 17.

“The Pan-American Championships in Lima will be the first competition of the year and we have high hopes that our selected teams will perform according to the winning prestige for our sport at the international level,” says Roberto Ibáñez Romero, president of the Ecuadorian Judo Federation ( FEJ).

The contest will be held in La Videna, in the Peruvian capital, with the registration of 700 judokas from 25 countries. On Saturday, April 9, the competition begins in the cadet category. The next day, the junior tournament will take place from 09:00. Then on Monday, April 11, the junior mixed teams tournament.

On Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13, the Referee Training Camp and Seminar will take place, the same referees who will be selected for the next world championships and Olympic Games. Next, April 15 will be the first day of combat in the senior category, the next day the same senior competitions until Sunday April 17, which will end the mixed team modality.

The first national contingent will leave Guayaquil on Friday, April 8. The team includes Matías Coronel (Guayas) and Astrid Gavidia (Pichincha). The contest will be held on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April. The athletes will be accompanied by Professor José Romero, coach of the Ecuadorian Judo Federation.

The second group will travel to Lima on Wednesday, April 13, to participate in the absolute category Pan American Championship. The great novelty is the absence in the delegation of the best Ecuadorian judoka, Lenin Preciado, who is recovering from an injury. The selection is completed: Estefanía García (Manabí), Freddy Figueroa, Bryan Garboa and Celinda Corozo (Guayas), Junior Angulo (Sucumbíos), Juan Pablo Ayala (Pastaza), Luz Peña (Cañar), Steven Morocho and Edith Ortiz (Pichincha). The delegation will be preceded by Eng. Gastón Pacheco.
