Facebook Live – Benjamin Deceuninck: “The flagship club in the minds of new investors is not Standard”

Like every week, we took advantage of a Facebook Live to preface the traditional Tribune and come back to the last day of the Pro League. On the program, therefore, the fairy tale of the Union which continues, the good performance of Anderlecht against Charleroi, the group of the Red Devils at the next Qatari World Cup but also the future of Standard under the leadership of new investors. With, as guest, Benjamin Deceuninck.

Asked about the title of regular season champion of Union Saint Gilloise, our presenter was obviously full of praise to mention this promoted who never ceases to surprise observers: “This title is well deserved. They are at the top of all the rankings: best attack, best defense, most clean sheets, top scorer so they are really impressive. What they did against Standard, both sportingly and mentally, it bodes well. I had the chance to comment on their first match of the season against Anderlecht. I knew them little. They won 1-3 in Anderlecht and I already said to myself at that time that this victory was not a coincidence, it was not just a blow. There was something solid in this victory. They had won 1-3, like Sunday against Standard. So symbolically, the first and the last trip of the season are two victories against Anderlecht and Standard, that sums up the season well” explains Benjamin Deceuninck.

A victory against a combative Standard for 45 minutes but finally asphyxiated after the break. A match like the Rouches season, disappointing and ultimately without real flavor: “We felt that Standard had a lot of desire in the first half. Some players wanted to show off, new investors were present in the stands. It was the last home game, they wanted to respect their audience, there were nearly 20,000 people. So in the investment it was good but they didn’t hold up over time. The Union was a cut above. Union size boss, that’s really it. The Standard is too short in all areas, we feel that mentally as soon as there is a backlash, everything collapses. Physically it’s not developed, some players are no longer really concerned. We’re going to have to rebuild and it’s going to take a little time.
